  3.     As an African American, I found your article "The Jackson
  4. Problem" (NATION, Dec. 12) very sobering. It dispelled any
  5. illusions I had of black people finally being taken seriously
  6. by the media and politicians. Why is Jesse Jackson viewed as a
  7. difficulty? Why are strategies being formulated to make him go
  8. away? Why did you not berate these tacticians for their
  9. insensitivity? I realize the white majority is tired of hearing
  10. our complaints of the existence of racism. But the '80s have
  11. taught us that this group cannot be trusted to monitor itself.
